2 Dead, 1 Injured In Northeast Queens Apartment Fire, FDNY Says
The Pomonok apartment where the fire broke out was "cluttered," delaying search and rescue efforts, the FDNY said.
POMONOK, QUEENS — Two people died and one was hurt after a fire tore through an apartment building in northeast Queens early on Wednesday morning, the FDNY said.
The fire broke out around 4:40 a.m. on the top floor of a four-story apartment building located at 71-02 162nd Street in Pomonok. Videos posted on Citizen show giant plumes of smoke billowing out of the building.
Firefighters quickly began searching through the top-floor apartment, but their rescue efforts were delayed "due to clutter" in the apartment. They ultimately found two people who died in the blaze, and one who was hurt by the fire, records show.
