Bayside Community College Among Best In New York State: Ranking

A new report finds that CUNY Queensborough is the top community college in the state.

BAYSIDE, NY — The best community college in New York state is in Bayside, according to a new report.

CUNY Queensborough Community College earned the top spot in a ranking of Empire State schools published this week by WRYX, an online radio magazine, based on data from College Tuition Compare.

The school beat out SUNY community colleges in upstate New York and Long Island, as well as fellow CUNY schools throughout the city, according to the report.

The Bayside institution had an enrollment of 15,411, has a student-faculty ratio of 21 to 1 and the highest degree for the school is an associate degree, reported U.S. News, a weekly consumer advice magazine.

The school has an open admissions policy and offers credit for life experiences and had tuition and fees at $5,210 for in-district and in-state students and $8,090 for out-of-state students from 2018 to 2019, according to the magazine.

Popular programs include liberal arts and sciences, general studies and humanities, business, management, marketing and related support services, as well as health professions and related programs, the magazine added. Queensborough Community College also had a full-time student retention rate of 64 percent.

Between 2017 to 2018, students received up to $5,656 in scholarship and grant awards, U.S. News added.

CUNY’s Stella and Charles Guttman Community College in Manhattan ranked second, while LaGuardia in Long Island City ranked fifth in the top 10 list, in the WRYX report.

SUNY schools such as Nassau Community College in Garden City, Columbia-Greene Community College in Hudson, Rockland Community College in Suffern, Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, Suffolk County Community College in Selden, Fulton-Montgomery Community College in Johnston and Erie Community College ranked for third, fourth and sixth through 10th place on the list.
