College Point Woman Charged With Murdering Ex-Boyfriend: DA

Prosecutors accused the 20-year-old woman of plunging a knife into her ex-boyfriend's neck during an argument over the care of their infant.

COLLEGE POINT, QUEENS — A 20-year-old College Point woman has been charged with murder for the fatal stabbing of her ex-boyfriend, according to the Queens District Attorney's Office.

Kattie Mino stands accused of plunging a knife into the neck of her former boyfriend — also the father of her child — the morning of June 4, prosecutors said.

Mino and her ex, Jonathan Estevez, were arguing over the care of their 1-year-old daughter that morning when she grabbed the knife and stabbed him, according to prosecutors. He died at a local hospital.

“An argument over the care of their child escalated into deadly violence," Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a statement. "Now the baby’s father is dead and her mother is facing prison time – leaving this one-year-old without either parent to raise her."

Prosecutors charged Mino with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.

She is due back in court Jan. 6. If convicted, she could spend up to 25 years to life in prison.
