Coronavirus Cases Force Northeast Queens Classrooms To Close

Classrooms are currently closed in five Northeast Queens schools after staffers and students there reported testing positive for COVID-19.

BAYSIDE, QUEENS — Classrooms in five Northeast Queens schools are closed as of Friday due to cases of COVID-19, according to the Department of Education.

BELL Academy on 212th Street was the latest to see a classroom shut its doors after at least one coronavirus case was reported Friday, a map of active cases from the Department of Education shows.

Four other schools in Bayside, Whitestone and Little Neck have had to close classrooms in the last week due to cases of the virus, though Department of Education officials have not specified how many classrooms in each school are closed and how many cases were reported in each classroom.

At J.H.S. 067 Louis Pasteur and I.S. 25 Adrien Block, one staffer has tested positive for the virus within the last two weeks, according to the state's dashboard of school coronavirus cases.

Two staffers have tested positive at P.S. 130, and a student at P.S. 79 Francis Lewis was positive for the virus, according to the dashboard.

Under Department of Education policy, one or two cases in the same classroom prompts a closure
of that room and requires all close contacts of the person to quarantine for 14 days.

There have been nearly 600 coronavirus cases in New York City's pubic schools since the return of students to in-person classes.
