LI Shooting Suspect Arrested In NE Queens After Miles-Long Chase
A man shot his ex-wife in her Long Island home, then led cops on a miles-long car chase that ended in northeast Queens with his arrest.
WHITESTONE, QUEENS — A man shot his ex-wife in her Long Island home, then led cops on a miles-long car chase that ended in northeast Queens with his arrest, according to Suffolk police.
Jiuber Mejia-Chicas shot the mother of his child at her Holtsville home about 9:25 p.m. Sunday, then shot himself and raced off in a 2005 Ford escape, police said.
Highway Patrol Sgt. Justin Carey soon spotted Mejia-Chicas, 35, driving west on the Long Island Expressway and tried to pull him over, police said.

But the man wouldn't stop and instead continued into Nassau County, then entered Queens.
Police officers caught up to him about 10:15 p.m. on the Cross Island Parkway near the Whitestone Expressway — more than 40 miles away from the scene of the shooting — and arrested him on charges of assault and criminal use of a firearm.

He was brought to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting victim, identified by the New York Post as Mejia-Chicas' ex-wife, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
