LITTLE NECK, QUEENS — The Stop & Shop in Little Neck will permanently close in October, a store spokesperson told Patch.

At 6 p.m. on Oct. 14, about three weeks from now, the Stop & Shop located at 249-26 Northern Boulevard will close for good, the spokesperson said.

News of the official closing date comes eight months after the supermarket chain first announced its plan to shutter the Little Neck location, which it says has been falling short of financial goals.

"This store was identified as underperforming relative to financial expectations," the spokesperson told Patch, adding that Stop & Shop regularly evaluates the business performance of its hundreds of grocery stores.

The supermarket chain, however, doesn't know what will come next for the Stop & Shop building, which is located at a small plaza with parking off of Northern Boulevard. The decision of what will replace the market is up to the landlord, the spokesperson said.
