23-Year-Old Arrested A Year After Fatal Bed Stuy Crash: NYPD

Th young Brooklyn man fatally hit a 43-year-old woman on a scooter in Bed Stuy last year, police said Tuesday.

BED STUY, NY — A 23-year-old man who fatally hit a Bed Stuy woman on a scooter last year was arrested Tuesday, police said.

Mike Josie, 23, of Brownsville, faces manslaughter charges related to the June 2022 crash at Throop Avenue and Lexington Avenue, NYPD announced Tuesday. Josie was also charged with leaving the scene and speeding, police said.

At about 2:14 a.m. on June 24, 2022, Josie fatally hit Bernadine Lewis, 43, of Bed Stuy, as she was riding an electric scooter on Throop Avenue, police said. He knocked her into the roadway and fled the scene.

Lewis was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced dead, police said.

Lewis was one of four pedestrians, bikers and scooter-riders struck by cars in Brooklyn that Friday, according to Streets Blog NYC. The others included an 11-year-old biker struck by an ice cream truck, Streets Blog NYC reported.
