BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — The border of Bed-Stuy and Crown Heights has three new LinkNYC free wi-fi kiosks as of this week. There are now LinkNYC stations that have been activated in front of 628, 695 and 656 Nostrand Ave., the city announced.
More than 600 LinkNYC kiosks have popped up across the five boroughs since the mayor launched the initiative in early 2016. Each kiosk has free wi-fi, domestic calling, two USB charging ports and access to 911 and 311. You can find a kiosk near you using this interactive map.
LinkNYC kiosks used to offer an Internet browser for people to surf the web, but there were several complaints of homeless people and others monopolizing the kiosks, many times to watch porn and other inappropriate videos. In September, the city removed most Internet, all but certain city services, from the kiosks.
