The Afri-Garifuna Jazz Ensemble originated at 1474 Bushwick Avenue in Brooklyn New York, spring of 2011. The music is a fusion of Garifuna rhythms and language with Jazz.  The concept is to use traditional Garifuna instruments such as turtle shell, Garifuna maracas and the garawoun drum as part of the instrumentation.  When we combine these elements with a standard jazz style and grouping of piano, bass and voice it produces a different sound that is familiar and unique. The musical compositions selected are arrangements of jazz standards and traditional Garifuna songs. For My Sweet is located at 1103 Fulton Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. There are two sets; 7:15pm. and 9:15pm. For reservations, call  (718) 857-1427, (917) 757-0170, (718) 753-3302 or email  Jazzymondays@gmail.com.
