Atlantic Avenue Crash Sends 2 To Hospital, FDNY Says

The two people, at least one of whom was a pedestrian who was hit, were hurt near the corner of Nostrand Avenue, officials said.

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — A crash on Atlantic Avenue on Tuesday sent two people to the hospital, according to fire officials.

The crash — which unfolded around 12:45 p.m. on the corner of Nostrand Avenue — included at least one person who was hit by a car, according to FDNY.

The department did not immediately clarify whether both patients were pedestrians.

Video from the crash shows one person, who appears to be a cyclist, on the ground while ambulances arrive.

The NYPD did not have further details about the crash.

The crash is at least the second time a pedestrian or cyclist has been injured at the intersection in the last few months, according to crash data.

Transit advocates have long called for safety improvements along Atlantic Avenue as a whole, most recently in a proposal to turn the corridor into the city's first "bike superhighway."

Overall, there were 10 fatal crashes on Atlantic Avenue last year, according to Transportation Alternatives.

At Flatbush Avenue and Atlantic alone, there were 75 injuries reported in the last five years, making it in the top 20 percent of the city's most dangerous intersections, according to TransAlt.
