Bed-Stuy Families Learn About Learning French At Bonjour Breakfast
This Bed-Stuy public school wants to feed you biscuits et café and tell you about its dual-language program. Mais oui.
BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN — Bonjour, Bed-Stuy, et bienvenue to breakfast and a foreign language. Bet you can't guess which one.
The Dr. Ronald E. McNair Public School at 820 Hancock St. will host Saturday morning a "Bonjour Breakfast" to present its French (how'd you guess?) dual-language program to the neighborhood.
Prospective and current families are invited to enjoy cookies and coffees (biscuits et café) and learn about the innovative program.

P.S. 5 currently offers the program in pre-K, kindergarten and first grade, but hopes eventually to expand the program through fifth grade, an event organizer told Patch.
Dr. Robert E. McNair is one of nearly 50 New York City schools that launched in 2019 a pre-K Dual Language program that saw students learning Haitian-Creole, Hebrew, Japanese and French.

Classes are taught in both languages and students in pre-K Dual Language program may continue on the Dual Language track.
The French Dual Language Program is open to anyone interested in learning French, and knowledge of the language is not a prerequisite, according to this guide from the The Cultural Services at the French Embassy.
"Subjects such as Math, Science or History are taught in French so that it becomes a language of instruction rather than just a foreign language," the guide states.
