BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — A mother and her 1-year-old baby died in a fire in Bed-Stuy on Tuesday morning, according to officials.

The 22-year-old woman and 1-year-old baby girl were found in the two-story home on Agate Court near Atlantic Avenue after firefighters put out a blaze that had broken out on the second floor around 10 a.m., according to FDNY and NYPD.

Both were taken to Interfaith Hospital in critical condition, where they were later pronounced dead, police said. ABC7 identified the woman as the baby's mother.

A third victim was treated with minor injuries from the flames, the spokesperson said.

The fire, which is under investigation by the Fire Marshal, is the third fatal fire in Bed-Stuy this year.

On Saturday, an elderly woman was found dead in a home that caught fire on Tompkins Avenue.

Less than a mile from the Tompkins Avenue fire, nearby businesses are still recovering from a three-alarm blaze that reduced a Gates Avenue building to rubble on Feb. 7. It took 130 firefighters to put out the massive blaze and two bodies were later discovered in the debris, according to officials and reports.

The Gates Avenue fire was among a spate of 10 fires within just ten days in Bed-Stuy. The unexplained spate of fires — which began on Jan. 31 and continued at a steady pace — displaced 52 neighbors and injured 11 people, according to officials.

A previous version of this story had the address of the fire on Alice Court, per an email from FDNY. FDNY has since updated the address to Agate Court.
