BED-STUY, NY — A Bed-Stuy man faces 4 years after prosecutors say he yelled slurs at a transgender woman before breaking her nose.

Ian Williams, 22, faces hate crime and assault charges related to the Aug. 17 attack on a J-train platform in Brooklyn, according to District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.

Williams yelled slurs at the woman and grabbed her buttocks about 1 p.m. Aug. 17 while waiting for a J-train at the Myrtle Avenue Station, prosecutors contend.

He followed her into the train and when the woman confronted him, Williams slapped, punched and threw her to the ground — at which point other straphangers stepped in, prosecutors said.

The woman was rushed to an area hospital and Williams was pulled into another car by onlookers.

"Every person in our city deserves to safely use the subway, no matter their gender identity or expression," Gonzalez said.

Williams is being held on $10,000 cash bail or a $50,000 bond and was expected back in court on Nov. 1.
