Bed-Stuy Resident and USA Olympic Boxer Eric Kelly Helps Children of the City

Photos of the two-time Golden Gloves boxer at celebrity benefit

Bed-Stuy resident and USA Olympic boxer Eric Kelly may have put down the boxing gloves, but he’s taken on a new fight: to help underserved children live a better life.

“I like to teach the things I’ve learned along the way,” Kelly told NBC online news channel, Niteside. “I’m very much about giving back to the community.”

Last week, the two-time Golden Gloves boxer attended the Children of the City benefit gala at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers in NYC, hosted by ex-Baltimore Raven and retired Giants football player David Tyree.

The Red Carpet event was a stellar affair, featuring a live band, open bar, multi-course meal, dancing and several special celebrity guests. Children of the City is an organization that continues to change the culture of poverty through education and outreach.

Kelly auctioned off a one-on-one hour training session at the Church Street Gym. The winning bidder, FX series 'Lights Out' Star Holt McCallany, paid $300 to learn from the experienced boxer.
