BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — A fire broke out in an apartment building at 274 Skillman Street in Bed-Stuy, between Dekalb and Lafayette avenues, just after 3:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Fire Department of New York (FDNY).
By 4 p.m., the now second-alarm fire had consumed the building’s second floor, third floor and cockloft (small loft or attic), an FDNY spokesman told Patch.
The fire also spread to an adjacent three-story apartment building, the spokesman said.
More than 100 firefighters battled the blaze for about an hour and 45 minutes before it was declared ”under control.”
One of the firefighters was transported to downtown’s Brooklyn Hospital with a minor injury, the FDNY spokesman said. However, no civilians were injured in the blaze, according to the FDNY.
