A wall collapsed at a construction site near Myrtle and Franklin avenues in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn — up near the border with Williamsburg and Clinton Hill — on Thursday around noon.
Three people were rushed to the hospital in serious condition after a “construction incident,” a spokesman for the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) told Patch.
One of them, a teen worker at the 656 Myrtle Avenue construction site, died from his injuries, according to the NYPD.
Police have identified the victim as Fernando Venegas, 19, a resident of Otis Avenue in Corona, Queens.
The 19-year-old had gone into cardiac arrest at the scene, according to Williamsburg News, a Twitter account that tracks police and fire reports in the Orthodox Jewish area of Williamsburg.
The other two victims, also construction workers, reportedly came away with serious head injuries but were expected to live.
Traffic was still blocked off in the area around the accident by 5 p.m., a nearby resident told Patch.
In photos of the construction site taken after the accident, one temporary wall appears to have collapsed inward.
City records for 656 Myrtle, where the collapsed construction site is located, show that a crumbling building at that location was demolished about one year ago.
In the time since then, multiple civilian complaints have been filed in regard to the construction site.
“Barrier was not stable,” a civilian complained in May of this year. “I have taken pictures.” More on that here.
