'Class Act': Bed-Stuy Star Student Athlete

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?

Isaiah is the prototypical student athlete in every sense of the word. Not only is Isaiah a scholar and exceptional athlete, he also embodies the spirit of community and integrity. Isaiah is the first person in our classroom session, leading from the front, while being a great asset to the group. In the gym he’s always leading the sprints, encouraging those who may not be as gifted. His energy is missed whenever family engagement takes him away for a day or two. This young man lights up every room he steps into, from the classroom to the gymnasium to the Boardroom of Assured Guaranty full of Department Heads and Executives. Class act all the way around the board. Isaiah is the prototype for the modern era Student Athlete. And to think, he has yet to enter High School.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?

Isaiah has experienced the highs and lows of of changes in family life. Dealing with his parents untimely divorce, and yet still maintains his youthful innocence and continues to lead his peers. This kid is beyond resilient, always looking for the best in every situation, rarely downtrodden, regardless of the circumstances of his situation. In tough time he appears to gain momentum and excel even then. He’s the consistent force and calming presence in every position he is in.
