BED-STUY, NY — A construction worker was injured after being trapped in a trench in Bed-Stuy Tuesday morning, according to the FDNY.

An onslaught of dirt nearly buried the man when the trench he was in collapsed about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday on Flushing Avenue near Harrison Avenue, according to Deputy Assistant Chief John Sarrocco.

The man was working on a building's foundation when dirt trapped him up to his waist, landing the man in critical but stable condition at a nearby hospital.

A dramatic rescue lasted around 45 minutes Tuesday, authorities said. The man was attached to a harness and hoisted from the ground as a Con Edison vacuum truck sucked out the dirt around the man.

Emergency personnel supported the trench with wood and provided medical attention on the scene before transporting the man to an area hospital.
