Driver Ran Red Light Before Hitting Pedestrian In Bed-Stuy: NYPD
A 20-year-old was charged with manslaughter and reckless driving related to a 2022 crash that killed a Bed-Stuy man, police said.

BED-STUY, NY — A young driver was speeding and ran a red light before fatally striking a pedestrian in Bed-Stuy a year ago, police and prosecutors announced Tuesday.
Kymani McDonald, 20, of Brooklyn, pleaded not guilty to charges including manslaughter, reckless driving, driving an unregistered vehicle and speeding related to the Dec. 5, 2022 crash that killed 61-year-old Glen Fields, according to the NYPD.
Police say McDonald was driving northbound on Bedford Avenue between Fulton and Halsey streets when he slammed into Fields, who was crossing Bedford Avenue, according to the NYPD.

McDonald had been speeding and ran a red light, according to an indictment from Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez.
Fields was rushed to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead, and McDonald stayed on the scene, police said.

Since the beginning of 2022, Bedford Avenue has seen 19 injurious crashes on just a 0.2-mile stretch between Hancock and Herkimer Streets, according to NYC Crash Mapper.
