Driver Strikes Pedestrian, Cyclist In Bed-Stuy, Police Say
A 20-year-old driver was taken into custody after she slammed into a pedestrian and cyclist Sunday night, police said.

BED-STUY, NY — A young driver was taken into custody after slamming into a pedestrian and cyclist in Bed-Stuy, sending both to the hospital, police said.
A 20-year-old driver was traveling westbound on Halsey Street Sunday night when she crashed into a 19-year-old pedestrian and 32-year-old cyclist near Tompkins Avenue, according to the NYPD.
The pedestrian was rushed to an area hospital with head trauma, and the cyclist was hospitalized in stable condition, according to police and Gothamist.

The driver stayed on the scene and was taken into police custody. Authorities continued to investigate the crash Monday, according to the NYPD.
Sunday's crash is just the latest in a series of incidents raising concern among street safety advocates. On Thursday, a 79-year-old woman named Yvonne Sandiford was fatally struck by back-to-back hit-and-fun drivers in Bed-Stuy, police said. Locals have started donating to support Sandiford's family.

On Oct. 26, an NYPD tow truck fatally struck a 7-year-old boy crossing the street in Fort Greene.
"NYC has the tools to stop traffic violence, but lacks the political will to make our streets safe," Transportation Alternatives advocates said in a tweet.
