BROOKLYN, NY — Bed-Stuy will soon lose a favorite neighborhood spot as Chilo’s prepares to close its doors at Franklin Avenue and Clifton Place this fall.

Known for its taqueria vibe and backyard food truck, Chilo’s quickly became a staple in the neighborhood. But on Instagram, the beloved spot announced it will be closing “for good” at the end of October, marking the end of an era for many locals.

"With an extremely heavy heart, we regret to inform you we are left with no choice but to close your favorite neighborhood taco bar," the team behind Chilo's wrote on social media. "This decision did not come easy, trust us, this is the last thing we ever thought would happen but nothing lasts forever, especially in New York."

Chilo’s is located at 323 Franklin Ave., at the corner of Clifton Place and Franklin Avenue.

While Chilo’s did not share the specific reasons behind its closure, it joins a growing list of Brooklyn nightlife venues shutting down recently.

Cocktail bar Dirty Precious closed after nearly a decade on Third Avenue, the Brooklyn Mirage—part of the Avant Gardner complex—has been closed for months due to ongoing renovations with no reopening expected until next year, and Greenpoint’s Ponyboy, located at 632 Manhattan Ave., also closed its doors last month.

Chilo’s first opened in 2015, serving up a variety of tacos—from carnitas to shrimp—freshly cooked in its signature backyard food truck. Guests could wash it all down with a selection of cocktails or choose from a solid lineup of tequilas and mezcals.

"Thank you for all the laughs, the epic Super Bowl parties, the loyal trivia crowd, and an extra special thanks to all of you who stuck with us from the very beginning," the social media post continued. "We are deeply sorry we won’t have more time with you."

An official closing date wasn’t announced, but the team invited patrons to “come through, eat, drink, party, and help us make these last weeks ones we’ll always cherish, as a bar but more importantly as a community.”
