Major Crime Down 19% In This Bed-Stuy Precinct: Data
Major crime dropped for the seventh month in a row across New York City in July, and part of Bed-Stuy was no exception.

BED-STUY, NY — Major crime decreased by just over 19 percent in one Bed-Stuy precinct in July, police data show.
Brooklyn's 81st Precinct, which covers the neighborhood east of Marcus Garvey Boulevard, saw a major drop in burglaries and grand larcenies in July as compared to the year before, police data show.
So far this year, the precinct has seen an 11 percent drop in major crimes — but the numbers weren't all good. July saw a slight increase in robberies and and felony assaults in the 81st Precinct, data show.

And in Bed-Stuy's 79th Precinct, which covers west of Marcus Garvey Boulevard, major crimes saw a slight uptick.
While rape, robbery and felony assaults dropped in this portion of the neighborhood, burglary, grand larceny and auto theft saw increases in July.

Shootings, which weren't included in the major crimes tally, decreased significantly in the 79th Precinct in July. In the neighboring 81st, the number of shootings was unchanged compared to last year.
Across New York City, murders and shootings dropped 35 percent compared to July last year — rape and robberies were also down. Grand larceny auto and felony assault were the only major crimes to increase in July compared to the year before, the data show.
