Mother Would 'Trade Places' With Son Slain In Bed-Stuy: Report

Family and friends were left mourning after a 29-year-old was fatally shot at a Brooklyn NYCHA development over the weekend.

BED-STUY, NY — Loved ones were left with questions after a 29-year-old was fatally shot in Bed-Stuy Saturday, according to police and reports.

Dawuand Darrien, 29, was shot in the chest about 2:45 a.m. Saturday at a NYCHA apartment building on Vernon Avenue near Marcus Garvey Boulevard, according to the NYPD.

The father of two was rushed to an area hospital and pronounced dead, according to police and the New York Daily News.

His suspected shooters ran, and no arrests had been made by Saturday, police said.

Darrien's mother, Latesha Darrien, told the New York Daily News she wishes she could switch places with her son — and that she still has questions.

“He just was a people pleaser,” she told the Daily News. “He loved his children far and most. He loved his fiancée.”

Witnesses told the Daily News they heard a drunk girl yelling outside before a fight broke out and the shooting started.

“Dawuand was very loved by a lot of people,” another loved one, Tamesha McCall, told the Daily News between tears. “He’s going to really truly be missed."
