BED-STUY, NY — Bed-Stuy's Family Enrichment Center is slated for new furniture thanks to some handy volunteer work over the weekend, including National Grid employees.

National Grid workers pitched in to build and paint furniture for a family center in Bed-Stuy operated by non-profit Little Flower Children Family Services of New York.

Little Flower, located at 630 Flushing Ave., operates one of NYC's many community-led spaces providing programming for family safety and preventing child abuse and neglect — others nearby include The CRIB in East New York and the Riseboro Community Partnership in Brownsville.

The spaces are designed to feel homey and prioritize community autonomy, according to NYC's Administration for Children's Services.

President Corinne Hammons said National Grid has supported Little Flower in more ways than one.

“Our partners at National Grid have not only supported the Family Enrichment Center with funds for new, uplifting furnishings — they have devoted their staff’s time to painting and building the furniture themselves,” Hammons said.

"We are so grateful for their true partnership in the community. National Grid’s Project C volunteers really show up for Bed-Stuy.”

Little Flower was one of three outreach projects included in National Grid's volunteer build day on Friday —employee-volunteers embarked on building projects in Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island.

In Queens, employees constructed furniture and a garden for a residential foster care facility for boys age 12-21, Saint John's Residence For Boys, which is affiliated with Little Flower.

In Nassau County, National Grid helped build a home with a non-profit that creates homes for people with disabilities.

"By joining hands with local organizations and leveraging the skills and passion of employees, National Grid can drive tangible progress and build a brighter, more equitable future for all," a National Grid representative said in a news release.
