BED-STUY, BROOKYLN — New Citi Bike stations have been planted all around Bed-Stuy, according to reports, the first in a major push to expand bike-share access further into Brooklyn.

According to Brownstoner and a map on the Citi Bike, the new Bed-Stuy stations have been placed along eastern Bed-Stuy and Ocean Hill, filling in gaps and reducing distances between stations.

Notably, Patchen Avenue appears to have received two new stations, between existing ones at Monroe Street and Bainbridge Street.

A new station on Saratoga Avenue marks the first on that stretch of road for Ocean Hill.

But the placement of the stations appears to not always be as obviously logical.

Another new station on Lexington and Stuyvesant Avenue appears to be just a block from two other stations.

Brownstoner first reported back in June that 120 new stations would be coming to Central Brooklyn, with a priority on bringing the bike-share program to more low-income neighborhoods and communities of color, a DOT official told Brownstoner.

A tweet from Citi Bike NYC said that the bikes would be continuing to expand in Brooklyn over the coming weeks.

According to Citi Bike data, there were over 3.5 million rides taken in August, the most recent month with data available. The total distance traveled by all Citi Bikes in New York City that month totaled 6,378,527 miles.

Membership costs $15.42 a month or $185 a year.
