New Supermarket To Debut On Bed-Stuy's Tompkins Ave
A DJ, face-painting, giveaways and other family activities will celebrate the grand opening for the family-run store this weekend.

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — A family-run supermarket brand is bringing its one-stop shopping to Bed-Stuy.
Met Fresh Supermarket — which also has stores in Bushwick and Queens — is getting ready to open the doors to its newest location on Tompkins Avenue this week.
The store, set up in a new building on the corner of Hancock Street, will offer a closer option for neighbors looking to do all of their grocery shopping in a single trip, according to owner Danny Hamdan.

"Bed-Stuy — this area in particular — there are no stores with competitive pricing where you can actually shop," said Hamdan, noting that most nearby markets in the area are smaller, specialty stores. "[Met Fresh] is a convenient local market where you can come shop and still get out quickly."
A "full-service supermarket," Met Fresh will include a large produce department, a juice bar, a fresh deli and cheese department, a frozen food section, coffee and espresso machines, a butcher and a seafood shop, Hamdan said.

It will also include a walk-in refrigerated "beer cave" and a bulk section where customers can fill up their own bags of rice, beans and nuts, he added.

Neighbors who can't make it in to shop in person can use Met Fresh's free online shopping or order groceries for delivery over the phone, Hamdan said. Met Fresh will also put out a weekly circular of coupons to help keep prices low.
"Customer service for me is the most important thing," Hamdan told Patch.
The Tompkins Avenue grocery will be the third opened by Hamdan and at least the fifth run by his family, who started their business in Bay Ridge.
It will be found on the ground floor of an apartment building built in 2019 known as Hancock Manor.
The opening, slated for this weekend, will kick off with a ribbon cutting on Friday and a family event from 12 to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The Saturday set up will feature a DJ, balloon making, face paint, free hotdogs, giveaways and other activities, Hamdan said.
"It's just something for the community," Hamdan said. "I figured we can kind of introduce our staff to the customers."
Met Fresh will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Saturday once it opens.
