UPDATE: Pedestrian Killed In Bed-Stuy Car Crash, Police Say

Police said that all of the vehicles remained on the scene, and one person was arrested.

BROOKLYN, NY — A pedestrian named Luis Mario Sangurima was killed in a car crash in Bed-Stuy on Tuesday afternoon, New York City Police Department officials confirmed.

The crash happened near 724 Myrtle Ave., between Walworth Street and Sandford Street in Bed-Stuy, just before 2 p.m., NYPD officials said.

According to a preliminary investigation, police said a 36-year-old man was driving eastbound on Myrtle Avenue at a high speed in a white 2023 Ford transit van when he crashed into an 18-wheeler and then into Sangurima, a 37-year-old construction worker who was flagging traffic.

The victim was rushed to Woodhull Hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead shortly after, according to the NYPD.

Police said that all of the vehicles in the crash remained on the scene, and the person driving the white Ford, named Clyde Mercury, was arrested and has been accused of criminally negligent homicide, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and failure to exercise due care.
