Police Blotter: A String of Robberies

A weekly roundup of police activity in the 79th Precinct

The 79th Precinct experienced a 30 percent decrease in crime the week of March 7 - March 13, ( 24 vs 34), compared to this same time last year. For the previous month, the 79th Precinct reported an overall of 24 percent decrease in crimes 101 vs 133, compared to this same month last year.

On Monday, March 7th, at 11:40 pm, a male, 28 years old, was walking on Franklin Ave near the corner of Madison Street when he was robbed at gunpoint. The perpetrator described as a black male black approximately 5'9” with a medium build, wearing blue jeans a blue overcoat and a gray skullcap brandished a gun and robbed the victim of $85.00.  

On Thursday, March 10th, at approximately 2:40 pm, a female, 26 years old, was walking through Lafayette Gardens Housing Development when she was robbed in the rear of 433 Lafayette Ave. Three unknown males approached her, one of which placed her in a headlock, while the other two removed her purse from her shoulder.

On Friday March 11th, at 11:00 pm, a male, 36 years old, was robbed of his cell phone on the corner of Marcus Garvey Blvd and Hancock Street. There were a total of three male perpetrators who approached the victim from behind, pushed him to the ground and removed his blackberry cell phone.

All Robberies are under investigation by the 79th Precinct Detective squad

 

A Burglary:

On Wednesday, March 9th, a residential burglary was reported at 838 Myrtle Avenue. An unknown person entered by breaking into a basement door and removing an Apple computer and other miscellaneous items.    

 

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of anyone connected with any of these incidents is asked to call the New York City Police Department's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls are kept confidential.

**** Next Wednesday March 23, 2011 the 79th Precinct Community Council is hosting its monthly meeting at 585 Dekalb Ave. The meeting begins at 7:00 PM. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly is scheduled to be present at this meeting.
