Police Blotter: Woman Shot in Ankle by Random Bullet on Gates Ave

A weekly roundup of police activity in the 79th Precinct

The 79 Pct experienced a 2 percent crime increase last week (42 incidents vs 41 incidents), compared to this same time last year. For the past month, there has been a 6 percent decrease in crime (165 incidents vs 175 incidents), compared to this same 28-day period last year.  

Shootings:  

On Wednesday, July 20, at approximately 8:30pm an 18-year-old woman was shot once in the ankle by a random bullet while she was standing on the corner of Marcus Garvey Boulevard and Gates Avenue. According to the shooting victim, she heard a shot and felt pain in her lower leg. A friend of the victim transported her by car to the hospital where the victim called 911. There was no 911 calls for shots fired and no ballistic evidence at the corner of Marcus Garvey and Gates Avenue. However, the investigation continues.

On Thursday, July 21, at approximately 12:30am, a 24-year-old man was shot in the abdomen in front of 125 Nostrand Avenue (Marcy Houses) The male black victim. The perpetrator is still unknown, although 911 calls surrounding the incident described that a group of males had attacked the lone shooting victim. The investigation is ongoing.

On Monday, July 18, at approximately 4:00am, a 19-year-old man was the victim of a robbery while he walked on Franklin Avenue near Lafayette Ave. Approximately seven male perpetrators assaulted the man and attempted to remove his bag. They were unsuccessful and fled in an unknown direction.

On Friday, July 22, at approximately 2:45am, a 24-year-old female was robbed at gunpoint. The woman was walking down Franklin Avenue between Willoughby and Dekalb Avenues when an unknown black male riding on a bicycle demanded her bag. The perpetrator then hit the woman in the face with his gun and forcibly removed her bag. The perpetrator fled down Franklin Avenue on his bike.
