BED STUY, NY — Street safety advocates planned a vigil to honor Adam Uster, a "beloved" Crown Heights cyclist fatally struck by a truck Monday.

A truck driver turned right into Uster, 39, at the intersection of Franklin and Lexington avenues, police said. Uster was riding in a designated bike lane.

Electeds and locals planned to meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection Franklin and Lexington avenues — a "known-dangerous intersection," according to vigil organizers Transportation Alternatives.

A ghost bike would be installed in Uster's memory, organizers said.

Uster was an advocate for safer streets and a member of Transportation Alternatives.

"This was another preventable tragedy in our neighborhood, caused by a failure to build safe bike infrastructure and an epidemic of reckless driving," said Council Member Chi Ossé in a Tweet Wednesday.

"My heart breaks for Adam and his family."

Throughout the week, loved ones remembered Uster as a "beloved friend" and father of two young children.

Advocates say Uster's death is indicative of a far larger road safety issue in Brooklyn. Uster marked the 13th cyclist killed in 2023 alone — rapidly outpacing cyclist fatalities for 2022.

"This is preventable. We have solutions to stop traffic violence, but you won't find them on the deadly streets of Brooklyn," one person said on Twitter.
