BED-STUY, NY — A shiny new subway train joined the A-line's fleet Thursday as authorities announced shorter weekend wait times on the G, J and M lines.
Starting Sunday, weekend commuters can expect wait times to max out at 10 minutes on the G, J and M lines — a reduction of two minutes, MTA officials announced Thursday.

On the A-line, the city rolled out the second of its newest cars known as R211. R211 trains, first introduced underground in March, have larger doors to speed up the boarding process.
"Beyond the cool experience of riding on a new train car, the R211s give riders and rail fans a modern and reliable riding experience," said NYC Transit Senior Vice President of Subways Demetrius Crichlow.

The improvements are part of the final state budget for 2024, which earmarked $35 million for increased subway service on nights and weekends, officials said.
“This year's state budget launched us toward an MTA that riders deserve,” said Assembly Member Zohran Mamdani.
The focus on weekends also follows recovery trends, officials said — weekend ridership has recovered faster than the weekdays.
The he city saw its busiest subway weekend since before the pandemic started, clocking 4.688 million paid riders between Saturday and Sunday.
