The Existing Businesses of Bed-Stuy: Becoming, Remaining Competitive

On Thursday, June 21, will hold a one-day workshop entitled, "," for residents, existing business owners and aspiring business owners to discuss business development opportunities on Malcolm X Boulevard and how residents can best position themselves to be ahead of the curve.

However, although the community certainly welcomes improvements along the strip brought in by new businesses, there are longtime business owners who have existed in the community for years and who have played a valuable and critical role in adding to the economic vitality of the neighborhood.

Yesterday, we polled residents on the businesses they would like to see more of and less of on a developing street like Malcolm X Boulevard. Today, we would like to take a look at how the existing businesses can become and/or remain competitive.

So, as new businesses look to establish themselves along Malcolm X Boulevard, we are asking the community, What do you feel is the most important consideration for existing businesses looking to reinforce or bring added value to their customers and remain competitive?
