BED-STUY, NY — The founders of iconic Brooklyn spots Daughter and Sincerely, Tommy teamed up to open a vegetarian spot in Bed-Stuy.

Che, which sits on Malcolm X Boulevard between Putnam and Jefferson Avenues, opened this week serving vegetarian small plates, natural wine, cocktails and coffee sourced from "ethical roasters."

In the daytime, Che will serve a breakfast sandwich, millet porridge complete with toasted coconut and cacao butter, curried yuca farls with crispy okra and chili oil and hummus toast.

Breakfast pastries from Daughter — Che partner Adam Keita's other venture — will be also served in the daytime.

Starting in January, Che will transition by night to serve "refined" shareables like red cabbage rolls stuffed with rice and beetroot, marinated lima beans and a celeriac steak.

"The food was hearty and incredible. I’ll be back," wrote one early diner on Instagram.

The cozy space seats only 20 people including a three-seat bar. The space features wood tables and chairs, accent chairs, a grey floor and a marble bar.

"I designed this space similar to its sister [Sincerely, Tommy,] minimal but more cozy," said founder Kai Avent-deLeon, who was behind the Bed-Stuy store Sincerely, Tommy and Building Black Bed-Stuy.

"We were meant to open 5 years ago before the Pandemic, fast forward and we’re finally opening our doors."

The eatery — named after Avent-deLeon's son — opened with a team of five.

"The Che team is truly something special — providing excellent service, specialty beverages, & holistic food for such a warm community is nourishing for us all," the team wrote on Instagram.

Che is open from 10 a.m. 5 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday until Jan. 3, at which point the eatery will stay open from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Che will be closed between Dec. 24 and Jan. 2, 2024.
