Video: Waterfall Cascades Down NYCHA Stairwell In Bed-Stuy
A burst pipe at the Marcy Houses had tenants battling a waterfall in their stairwell Sunday night, video shows.

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, BROOKLYN — A Bed-Stuy NYCHA building stairwell became a waterfall Sunday night when a burst pipe sent water cascading down the steps toward residents' homes, video shows.
Residents of the Marcy Houses at 486 Marcy Ave. near Ellery Street suddenly found themselves facing a downpour inside their building about 5 p.m., according to Citizen App and Brooklyn 12 News.
They grabbed brooms and towels then rushed into the stairwells to try and channel the water away from their homes, video shows.

NYCHA told Brooklyn 12 News the leak was repaired and water restored by midnight, but tenants noted that the building's only elevator was out during the flood, and left elderly residents stranded in their homes.
The flood occurred one day after a violent Marcy Day at the NYCHA complex, when three NYPD officers were injured and four people arrested for hurling bottles.
