Woman Pays $294 for 400-Mile Uber Ride to Brooklyn

The mystery Uber rider did it all for her Bed-Stuy boyfriend, her driver tells the Post.

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — A woman paid $294.09 over the summer for a 397-mile Uber trip from a Ben & Jerry's location in Williamsburg, Virginia, to her boyfriend's house on Putnam Avenue in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, according to the New York Post.

America's No. 1 ride-sharing blogger, Harry Campbell, is calling it the longest ride in Uber history. (Patch has reached out to Uber for confirmation; we'll update if and when we hear back.)

Uber driver and Virginia resident Janis Rogers, 64 — who we're fairly sure has set a second record as the most agreeable driver in Uber history — described the strange encounter in a recent interview with the Post.

“She was pretty," Rogers said of her passenger, whose identity remains a mystery. The driver remembered the woman being around 19 or 20 years old, with long brown hair.

"She was sitting outside with a suitcase and a bag" around noon on June 9 of this year, the Uber driver told the Post. "I did not get her name. I think she had been Ubering up the coast.”

Rogers said the woman asked her, “How far north can you take me?” To which Rogers replied: “Well, I’m not doing too much today, so I’ll take you all the way."

The young woman then curled up in a blanket Rogers keeps in the backseat of her Prius and slept the entire 7 hours and 42 minutes to Brooklyn. Yet after all that, Rogers said, the woman "didn’t seem excited to see her boyfriend. She was kind of blasé. She looked tired.”

As for Rogers: She turned right back around and drove home to Newport News, Virginia. She arrived around 3:45 a.m., she told the Post.

After all was said and done, Rogers only made around $9 per hour for the round trip.

“This was not lucrative,” she said. “I did it because it was an adventure.”
