
The Bedford Democratic Committee has unanimously endorsed David Menken to be its candidate to run in a special election for Town Justice, to fill the seat held by the late Judge Kevin Quaranta.
The endorsement came at the monthly meeting the Committee held on August 8, 2012.
According to Committee Chair Bruce Yablon, According to Committee Chair Bruce Yablon, "We all lost a personal friend, an extraordinary public servant and a true Democrat However, we look forward to supporting David in what we are sure will be his successful campaign to be the next Bedford Town Justice and know that he will serve the Bedford community with dignity, fairness and integrity."
Currently, David Menken is the Chairman of the Bedford Zoning Board of Appeals, a Board to which he was appointed in 2003. He is also President of the and serves as an active firefighter and EMT. David is also 1st Vice Chair of the Westchester County Charter Revision Committee and is a former Mount Kisco Village Attorney.
David Menken is an attorney working in White Plains, has a law degree from NYU Law School and a BA from John Hopkins University. He lives in Bedford Village with his wife, Julie, and his children Jacob (a grad student at the University of Vermont) and Emily (a sophomore at Johns Hopkins).
David Menken ran unsuccessfully for Town Justice in 2009, losing to Erik Jacobsen by just 36 votes.
Menken said, "I had hoped to serve alongside my very good friend Kevin Quaranta, and have been deeply saddened by his passing. It is therefore with mixed feelings that I run to replace my friend on the court. However, as Bedford Town Justice I would provide continuity in the Court by ensuring, like Judge Quaranta, that everyone who appears before the court is treated fairly and with respect."
