Career Day Volunteers Needed

Via Bedford Central Schools

On Wednesday, March 28, 2012 l 8th graders will participate in Career Day.  Career Day is a structured career readiness program which provides activities designed to further student career exploration.  With high school days fast upon them, the time has come for students and parents to begin discussions about options for the future.  Students who engage in career exploration are often equipped with enhanced ability to make informed career choices as they mature and grow.

The FLMS model of Career Day involves inviting volunteer speakers to engage students in classroom discussion and presentation about their jobs, careers, industries and career development experiences.  The speakers will also discuss the educational and skill requirements for entering their field.  The goals of Career Day are for students to:

  • open their eyes to a range of career opportunities
  • explore an industry or organization
  • develop a realistic view of the workplace
  • make the connection between their school work and their future
  • learn about specific industry skills and educational requirements
  • become motivated to take on educational challenges.

In order to meet these goals, we require the assistance of well prepared, engaging volunteer speakers.  Such speakers will serve to make our fourth annual Career Day a success, providing much needed career guidance and information to our students.
