Pumpkin picking season is here, and County Executive Robert P. Astorino along with his wife and three children, will join with area families to pick and paint a perfect pumpkin on Saturday, Oct. 5, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Muscoot Farm in Somers.
The event – part of Muscoot’s “Pumpkin Patchin’” that takes place from noon to 4 p.m. – is one of several programs planned to celebrate autumn at the farm over the coming weekends, including the farm’s annual Autumn Celebration on Sunday, Oct. 20.
"Muscoot is one of my family’s favorite day trips in any season, but in fall the farm really comes alive with vibrant colors and great activities for people of all ages,” Astorino said. “There’s no better place to buy a pumpkin, and when you buy here you’re also supporting the farm’s operation.”

Westchester offers fun “falltastic” attractions and events for families during the season with an array of farms and orchards throughout the county. Muscoot Farm is one of many in the area. It offers an on-site museum that has a glimpse of a working dairy farm in the early 20th century. Weekly farmer’s markets, hayrides, adult programs, farming workshops, and a young farmer’s camp are all part of the farm’s year-round attractions.
Admission to Muscoot Farm is free; there will be a price per pound for pumpkins and a $5 fee for painting a pumpkin. Proceeds benefit the farm through the Friends of Muscoot Farm, Inc.
