Bedford Hills 'Exotic Pet Vet' Featured in Westchester Business Mag

Westfair Online had a story on Laurie Hess, who owns the Veterinary Center for Birds and Exotics in Bedford Hills.

Veterinary doctor Laurie Hess has had a busy year since opening her niche practice of treating exotic animals last year.

Writer Kelly Liyakasa says Hess has built up a "sizeable following" for her business, the , which "cost a half-million dollars to open."

The story talks about Hess' diverse experiences, from being one of 130 bird specialists in the world to serving as a guest expert on Animal Planet’s “Peculiar Pets 101.” Hess said she complements other practices in town because of her unique expertise.

“My digital X-ray machine alone runs over $60,000,” she told Westfair Online. “That’s one of the reasons I gel very nicely with the other vets in the environment. I don’t do what they do and they don’t do what I do and they’re more than happy to refer business and vice-versa.”

Her upcoming plans include more television appearances and the release of a book including anecdotes from her practice.
