Bedford Police Blotter: Stolen Credit Cards, Noisy Neighbors, a Trusting Jogger

A roundup of police activity as reported by Bedford's finest for May 27 - June 2.

Bedford Police participated in the Buckle Up New York program, and conducted three separate traffic safety stops: On May 29 at 9:12 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., and on May 30 at 10:50 a.m. At the first, two tickets were issued, one for an expired inspection and one for a child under four years of age not wearing a seatbelt. The other stops resulted in three seatbelt summons issued.

May 27

At 6 p.m. 26-year-old Kimberly Marie Velez of Waterbury, CT surrendered to the Bedford Police for the criminal possession of stolen property. The case had been going on since February, when a wallet and credit cards were reported stolen from Shop Rite in Bedford Hills. Velez used the stolen card at Staples in Mt. Kisco, and further investigation led the police to contact her as the identified thief. She was released on bail set at $1,500 cash.

May 28

The police License Plate Reader, embedded in a parked car, led to the arrest of Ronda K. Robinson of Mt. Vernon. After she drove past the LPR, which detected her vehicle type and plate number, and electronically flagged police to her failure to answer four summons, an officer stopped her on South Bedford Road. She was arrested and released on $150 bail and due in town court on June 10.

At 7:06 a.m. police were called to Schildback Road for reported criminal mischief. Sometime between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. a parked truck was damaged on the passenger side window. There was nothing apparently missing from the vehicle but the damage totaled $300.

At 6:40 a.m. police responded to a call from Mt. Kisco Honda at 700 Bedford Road in Bedford Hills. A female customer complained about the service, and disclosed plans to damage an employee vehicle. She left prior to the police officer's arrival, saying that she would not continue as a customer of the dealership.

May 29

At 2:36 p.m. police responded to a report of an injured deer on the side of Cross River Road in Katonah. Police were unable to find the animal. Deer who have been struck by a car sometimes recover and walk away, according to police.

At 5:26 p.m. police responded to Haines Road in Bedford Hills. The individual was upset that their neighbor was raking the gravel at the end of the common driveway. The dispute ended peacefully.

At 8:33 p.m. police went to Lyon Ridge Road in Katonah after a report of possible fireworks release. Officers advised the residents gathered at a small family party in backyard that fireworks are illegal and they were told to stop.

May 30

At 7:46 a.m., police responded to a call from a residence on Babbit Road in Bedford Hills. A loud banging noise was reported. Upon investigation, it was determined the noise came from someone installing fence posts. The workers were advised of the noise ordinance forbidding work on the weekend, and the ceased the project.

At 7:54 p.m. police responded to a dog complaint from East Field Drive in Bedford. The individual reported that a neighbor's dog had accosted her in the driveway. The dog control officer did a follow up visit to the neighbor and no charges were filed.

May 31

At 12:45 p.m.a man reported a theft from his car. He had parked his convertible, with the top down, on Reservoir Road in Katonah and placed his car keys, wallet, and Blackberry under the passenger seat. After he returned from a jog, he discovered his Blackberry, credit cards and $20 were stolen. The car keys remained. The investigation is ongoing.

At 4:27 p.m. police received a call from Babbit Road in Bedford Hills for a verbal dispute between the owner of a car needing roadside assitance and the tow truck driver who responded. The driver asked for the car to be taken to the Bronx, but the tower was concerned about going there. After the discussion heated up, the tower asked for police assistance. The car owner then said they didn't want the tow.

At 4:42 p.m. police were called to Old Village Lane in Katonah for a report of vehicle blocking a common driveway. The individual complained that an ice cream truck was making it difficult to get out. The resident was advised that the incident was on private property and was a civil matter.

June 1

At 3 p.m. police were called to Katonah Avenue for a report of criminal mischief. Graffiti had been painted on the brick alleyway. The letter "B" had been spray painted with blue paint. This is an ongoing case with follow-up being conducted the the department's youth officer.

At 9:39 a.m. staff at the repair garage behind Katonah Elementary School at 106 Huntville Road reported stolen scrapmetal. The incident occurred between May 28 and June 1. Over $700 worth of car radiators and scrap metal were taken.

June 2

At 8:19 a.m. police were called to South Bedford Road for a reported confrontation between a Fox Lane graduate and an employee of Fox Lane High School. The 19-year-old graduate, who had been arrested on May 26th for driving under the influence, went to the school to talk with the employee had reported his behavoir leading up to the arrest.*

At 12:39 p.m. police recieved a call from Bedford Road in Bedford Hills with a report of a lost town of Bedford parking permit.

At 5:10 p.m. police were called to Edgemont Road to assist Con Edison in shutting off a gas line to a residence for possible gas leak.

At 10:14 p.m. a resident of Middle Patent Road in Bedford reported a loud truck. The driver was attempting to move his truck, stuck in some mud, and the grinding was creating a loud noise.

* Editor's note: we originally reported that the graduate was arrested after going to Fox Lane High School to confront an employee. The information provided by police indicates that the graduate was first arrested and then he went to the school to talk to the employee the following week. We regret the error.
