A Bedford Star Student Lifting Others Up While He Pursues His Dreams

BEDFORD, NY — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Stephanie Rivera, Alumni Operations at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons who nominated James of Bedford-Katonah. James is a Star Student who is doing every bit as much to better the world as he is to better himself.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

James has been volunteering for Heavenly Productions Foundation, a 501c-3 not for profit that helps children in need for the last 13 years. Most recently he helped deliver 200 toys to White Plains Hospital during January 2023.

James received a Presidential scholarship to Manhattan College and was inducted into the Saint La Salle Honor Society and has a 4.0 GPA the last 3 academic years.

James received the Prudential Spirit of Community Award in 2018 and 2019 as a NYS Honoree for his outreaches to help raise literacy rates for children in Rwanda, Africa and donated art projects for pediatric patients at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

He enjoys working out and playing basketball everyday. He loves writing songs, singing, playing piano and guitar.
