Bike to School, Indian Point and What to do With Holiday Leftovers
It's 5 things you need to know Tuesday.

1. It's Bike/Walk to and from school week at BHES
Bedford Hills Elementary School is encouraging all students to walk to and from school during the week of April 25-29. Parents are encouraged to join their neighbors and walk with their children to school. Other special activities associated with the walk include giveaways and daily walker tally. On Wednesday, Shoprite supermarkets will be handing out bottles of water and fruit to kids who walked; on Thursday—Earth Day—walkers will be picking up trash along their routes. The week concludes Friday with participants receiving blue and white shoelaces donated by Mount Kisco Sports and refreshments from Panera Bread.
The event is being organized by the Safe Routes to School Committee. For additional local information, please call (914)241-2953.

The police department sent a message yesterday saying it would stop using the Nixle message service, a (formerly) free subscription emergency alert system, because of new fees that could cost the town up to $5,000 per year to maintain the program. The department will use a limited and free version of the service while they search for an economically responsible alternative messaging service. The Bedford Police encourage the public to contact Nixle about this change in their policy. For full details, go to https://local.nixle.com/alert/4682472/?sub_id=446016.

5. What to do with holiday leftovers?
Check back at 6 p.m. for Judy Hausman's "Inventive Re-do's from holiday feasts." If the spring holiday meals have left you with a surplus, think of those leftovers as raw material or natural resources, not tired re-runs, she says. All we can say is, yum.
