Cops Use K9 Unit to Track Bedford Hills Larceny Suspect

A 45-year-old Mount Kisco man is facing a misdemeanor charge of petty larceny in connection with a theft at Kohl's in Bedford Hills and a subsequent police chase, officials say.
The incident occurred at about 3:15 p.m. Monday, when the store's security team observed a man stuffing items into a backpack. They tried to stop him, but he fled the business and ran west on Norm Avenue before continuing onto the train tracks, Lt. Jeffrey Dickan of the Bedford Police Department said.
Authorities set up a command post. Officials from Mount Kisco, the MTA and Westchester County responded. A block on Metro-North tracks between Green Lane crossing and the Mount Kisco Station was established so police could safely search the area.
A K-9 unit consisting of Officer Matthew Notaro and K9 Seneca tracked the suspect, and located the backpack—which contained clothing and a wristwatch, valued at about $200. One of the detectives spotted the accused, Noel Anthony Smith, during the track. He was taken into custody without incident.
Smith was arraigned and sent to the Westchester County Jail on $2,000 bail. He is due Thursday in Bedford Justice Court.
