Cross River Man Charged with DWI, Endangering Welfare of Child

The information below was provided by the Bedford police and does not indicate a conviction.

Kyle Friedman was arrested after his car crossed the fog lines several times and narrowly missed hitting a curb, police said.

Police on patrol noticed Friedman, 22, of Cross River, driving a car with a broken headlight at approximately 1 a.m. on June 9. After following the vehicle and observing erratic driving, officers stopped him in the parking lot of the Bedford Diner.

During their interview, Friedman said he had a beer at a friend's house and in response to questions about drugs said he did not smoke marijuana. Police noticed Friedman had bloodshot eyes and administered field sobriety tests, which he failed. A 16-year-old youth was sitting in the car's front passenger seat.

Police arrested Friedman, searched him, and found a small plastic envelope in his front pocket containing what seemed to be marijuana. The youth was driven to his home and turned over to his parents.

Friedman was brought to headquarters where he refused a pre-screen alcohol test. He was charged with DWI, unlawful possession of marijuana, making an unsafe lane change, speeding, refusing a pre-screen test and driving with failed equipment. Because he was driving with the 16-year-old, Friedman was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child. He was released on $260 bail pending a return to town court.
