Fox Lane Students Shine in Arts

The Fox Lane Middle School wins a "gold" rating, and 42 students were inducted into the arts honor society, among other accolades and achievements earned.

Orchestra Earns Gold Rating

Thirty sixth, seventh and eighth grade members of the Sinfonetta Orchestra performed at the New York State School Music Association Majors Ensemble Festival in Rockland County on May 16.

The judges awarded the ensemble a GOLD rating on Level 3 repertoire.  Roberta Warfield, a 28 year veteran string teacher, directs the ensemble which rehearses after school weekly.  “This is a confirmation of the hard work, practice, and dedication these students have shown throughout this school year,” she said.

National Art Honor Society Inductees

Forty-two high school students were inducted into the Fox Lane High School chapter of the National Art Honor Society last night. These students have not only demonstrated a commitment to their own artistic growth, they brought art into the entire school and community.

In the fall, they created Art History Day to educate students about American artists throughout history. In addition, all of the inductees performed several hours of community service geared towards education others about art.

The highlight of the induction ceremony was an inspirational speech by recent graduate Emily Hoffman, who now attends RISD (Rhode Island School of Design).  Her words validated the pursuit of art as an avenue to successful careers and a fulfilling life.

FLHS Students Selected for Bruce Museum Art Exhibit

The Bruce Museum in Greenwich held an opening reception for "iCreate", a juried exhibit of high school senior work across two counties.

Nearly 300 works were submitted to the museum and only 35 were accepted for the exhibit.  Four of those works were by Fox Lane Seniors Carly Boyajian, Dan Dittrich, and Jessica Blanchard.  In fact, when the museum came to pick up the work that had made it to the final round of jurying, they literally took Jessica's piece off the wall and said they had to have it for the show.  This piece is very special to the artist because it is a lifelike sculpted clay portrait of Fox Lane High school coach and security guard John McLaughlin III who passed away last September.  Jessica spent months perfecting his likeness and finishing it with a bronze patina.  Congratulations to these three seniors for this tremendous honor!  The show runs through June 26th.

Fox Lane Teacher Exhibiting in Saratoga Springs
