Get the Dirt on Compost: A Bedford Compost Tour
Where/When: Composting info session at John Jay Homestead, noon - 2 p.m., 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. tour

Why go: To learn from the Bedford 2020 Waste/Recycling Task Force all about the ease and many benefits of composting. It starts with a composting Info Session at John Jay Homestead featuring interactive displays; tips from experienced local composters; leaf mulching demo; a variety of composting bins, tools and accessories; and raffle. That's followed by a composting tour at local homes, schools and farms including: Armstrong House, Becker Residence, Lockwoods, Mitchell Residence, Mt. Kisco Child Care Center, Mt. Kisco Elementary School, River Hills, Sevenoaks. Advance registration is required.

Poetry Reading: Dennis Nurske
Where/When: Katonah Village Library, Sun. 4 p.m.
Why go: The Katonah Poetry Series continues with former poet laureate of Brooklyn, author of ten poetry collections, Dennis Nurkse reads from his latest book A Night in Brooklyn ("Nurkse . . . renders our imperfect world perfectly in this stunning book." --Publishers Weekly.) Booksigning and reception to follow.

Where/When: Pound Ridge Theatre Company, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., through November 17; Thursday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m.
Why go: Comic relief from the storm-related events of the past two weeks; plus, it's a "a hilarious and poignant play about key events in five women's lives, and the clothes they wore," written by Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron. It's directed by Larry Schneider. Bring your own food and spirits, doors open one hour prior to curtain.

Where/When: The Katonah Museum of Art, Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Why go: Blue Sky Studios lead character designer/illustrator (and creator of Scrat) Peter de Sève will read from “The Dutchess of Whimsy,” written by his wife Randall with his lavish and humorous illustrations. Following the reading children will have fun with the hands-on art activities.

Teen Countdown to 'Twilight'
Where/When: Friday night, 7 p.m., Lewisboro Library
Why go: It’s Friday Fun at the library for teens in middle and high school. The library is offering a “Twilight Countdown” party to celebrate the film release of the last Twilight installment, “Breaking Dawn: Part 2” (in theaters November 16). Compete in some Twilight Trivia and feast on Blood Punch, Good–to-the-last-Bite Pizza and Vampire/Wolf cupcakes. Registration is required.

Open House at the Bedford Historical Museum
Where/When: Bedford Hills Historical Museum, Sun. 3 p.m.
Why go: Do you have memories, letters, artifacts, photos of a relative or family member who served whom you would like to honor? You are invited to an Open House at the Bedford Hills Historical Museum to meet local men and women who served during World War II, as well as descendants and relatives of those who served during both World Wars I and II on Sunday, November 11, 3 to 5pm at the Bedford Hills Historical Museum (first floor of the Town House on 321 Bedford Road), Bedford Hills. "One Love" Benefitting Madison Asia Bookall Foundation
When/Where: Sunday, Nov. 11 from 12pm -2pm at the Somers High School turf field
Why Go: The 2nd Annual "One Love" flag football game is for third grade boys and girls. This event is to honor the life and memory of 7-year-old Madison Bookall who died last year in a tragic car accident. The Madison Asia Bookall Foundation a nonprofit organization committed to granting scholarships to local underprivileged school age children by providing them with opportunities for artistic expression.

Tour Westchester Magazine's American Dream Home 2012
Where/When: 41 Hudson View Way, Tarrytown, Thurs. - Sun. through Nov. 11, starting at 10 a.m.
Why go: It's a waterfront setting, a beautifully-crafted artisan home, and a walkable community with great shops, restaurants, and a marina. The open house tour of Westchester Magazine’s American Dream Home is a luxurious, well-appointed townhome that’s both elegant and modern, and boasts every imaginable energy-efficient feature that exists in the building industry today. Open house tours of American Dream Home and its beautifully designed interiors will begin October 19, and will take place every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday through November 11.

Hudson River Potters Pottery Show and Sale
Where/When: Briarcliff Congregational Church on Friday, Nov. 9 from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Why go: A group of local ceramic artists will be showing and selling some of their original pieces this weekend in the church's parish house this weekend.
