Harckham Seeks Re-Election To NY State Senate: Patch Profile 2022
His top priorities are women's reproductive rights, gun safety, economic relief for the middle class, the environment and education equity.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — In 2022's general election, residents of the Hudson Valley will be voting for state and local officials. In anticipation, Patch asked candidates in the contested races to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles before election day.
New York Sen. Pete Harckham is seeking re-election in District 40, redrawn by a special master based on the 2020 Census to include western Putnam County and northern Westchester County.

Harckham has served two terms in the State Senate. The Democrat won the seat from incumbent Terrence Murphy in 2018 and fended off former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino in 2020. This time he is being challenged by Westchester resident Gina M. Arena.

To protect a woman's right to choose and pass gun safety legislation
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
The Republican running for SD-40 does not support a woman's right to choose and will not pass meaningful gun safety legislation.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
Economic relief for the middle class, environmental protections, equity for public school funding.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
One of the most productive members of the New York State Senate. I had 16 of my bills signed into law last year. Previously, I worked to make the 2% Property Tax Cap permanent; fought to pass the toughest climate protection legislation in the nation; and was a leading voice to hold the utilities accountable in the wake of failed responses to natural disasters.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
100% pro-labor voting record
