Hochman to Recommend 10 for Tenure

Superintendent of Schools Jere Hochman is recommending that the school board confer tenure to ten teachers and administrators at Wednesday's school board meeting.

After successfully completing three years of probationary service to the district—or two, if the teacher has been granted tenure in a prior district—

Bedford’s tenure process is "extremely rigorous," according to officials, and includes setting annual goals, in-class observations, an annual review, and input from community members.

Budget Hearing

Also on tonight's agenda is the formal budget hearing, mandated by the state of New York.

a spending increase of 3.12 percent. It raises the tax levy, which is the total amount of property taxes to be collected, by 2.69 percent, to $108,063,040. It stays within the state-mandated tax levy cap because it includes exemptions such as changes to the property tax base.

Homework Policy

The third major item on tonight's agenda is the first reading of the district's draft homework policy. Board member Jennifer Gerken initated the discussion last Febrary because of the importance of the issue to district families.
