Hyde Park Man Arrested For Attempting To Break Into ATM: Bedford PD

One suspect is still on the loose. Bedford police, Westchester County police and a Putnam County K-9 unit combed a nearby wooded area.

BEDFORD, NY — An alert passerby helped foil a late night burglary at a northern Westchester business.

The Bedford Police Department says that on Thursday, around 3:15 a.m., a Bedford resident called 911 to report seeing two people attempting to break into an ATM at the Village Service Center on Pound Ridge Road, in Bedford Village.

Officers who arrived on the scene found a man in the woods at the back of the service station and apprehended him. Another man fled deeper into the woods and has still not been captured.

Police say there is currently no threat to the community and that they are thankful for the observant resident who quickly contacted 911 to report suspicious activity.

"Our job would be much more difficult without the support and quick actions of our community," Bedford police said. "We would also like to thank our partners at WCPD and PCSO K-9 for their assistance."

Joseph Tomassetti, of Hyde Park, was arraigned in Town of Bedford Court and released on his own recognizance with a future court date. He was charged with felony third degree attempted grand larceny of an ATM, felony third degree criminal mischief, and misdemeanor fifth degree conspiracy.
