Katonah Man Charged With Drug Possession

A Katonah man was arrested after a two-car accident, Bedford police said.

Police officers responded to a crash reported on Cherry Street on Nov. 9. Witnesses at the scene said they saw the driver of a car, which had apparently rear-ended a second car near Quicks Lane, throw objects from the windows after the accident.

Police investigators identified the driver as Aaron David Haight, 20, of Katonah, and observed a smoking pipe in his car. A Westchester County K-9 Police unit was requested to sweep the area for the thrown objects, suspected to be drug-related.

The K-9 located two glass pipes and recovered several bags of marijuana, which police later determined was over 13 oz. Haight failed field sobriety tests at the scene and was brought to police heaquarters for processing. He was charged with fifth degree criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor, driving while ability impaired by drugs and following a motor vehicle too closely. Haight was released on $250 bail pending a return to town court.

A 64-year-old woman who was driving the car that was hit refused medical attention at the scene.

Diesel fuel reportedly stolen

Police said over 80 gallons of diesel fuel was reported stolen from a large storage tank in a Penwood Road backyard. The theft occurred  between 1 p.m. on Nov. 8 and 7 a.m. on Nov. 9.  The fuel was valued at approximately $352.
